On March 6, 2020, Frankfurt Opera presented the revival of the 2014 production of Frederick Delius’ Romeo Und Julia Auf Dem Dorfe (A Village Romeo and Juliet), based on Gottfried Keller's realistic retelling of the Shakespeare classic and featuring a richly nuanced score reminiscent of German romanticism and French impressionism. Making their debuts were German conductor Elias Grandy and Canadian soprano Simone Osborne.

Elias Grandy is currently in his 5th season as General Music Director of the Theater and Orchestra Heidelberg. With his diverse artistic repertoire, Elias continues to grow Heidelberg’s reputation as one of Germany’s most fascinating centers for music and opera. The remainder of the season will see him return to Heidelberg for new productions of Puccini's Madama Butterfly and Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia, as well as symphonic concert.

In an homage to her Canadian heritage, Simone Osborne achieves an operatic “hat trick” by making her role/company/country debut as Juliet. Season highlights include Gretel in the Canadian Opera Company’s new production of Hänsel und Gretel conducted by Johannes Debus, First Niece in Peter Grimes at Frankfurt Opera, and Act IV of Le nozze di Figaro in concert with the Vancouver Symphony.
